Japan and Europe – my first impression

When asked about the differences between Japan and Europe, I really don’t know where to start from. There are so many particularities in every aspect, which create a feeling of being in another planet!

My first impressions from this time’s visit were as soon as I landed. Tokyo Haneda airport: thousands of people, huge spaces, all quiet and clean! Same conditions at the streets: traffic, many pedestrians, but still, almost no sound of it at all! Feels like watching a movie on mute mode!

All is calm, stress-free, at peace, slow. Which brings me to another peculiarity that I noticed: slow traffic, but, very fast cars. The fastest on the market, actually! It was confusing, to see the streets’ impeccable conditions – no holes, no bumps, good visibility, signs everywhere – and to see all these fast cars driving so slowly! I can understand that the speed limit in the city is low, but I was dazzled to discover that the speed limit on highways is just 80 Klm/h!!

What runs superfast is the Internet! Most people are using their smartphones or tablets, when they were commuting, eating, and even when they are walking. Internet reception works fine in the Metro, which can be 40 meters underground.

Tokyo is so far the cleanest place I have ever been. All public spaces are regularly cleaned, even if they are already spotless! Trash bins don’t exist at the streets and smoking is allowed only in designated areas, indoors or outdoors. It is not allowed to smoke out on the street, but there are smoking areas in several places, also permitted in some restaurants.

Design and care for detail is everywhere! In how people dress, how food is ornamented, how shops take care of their windows.

What touched me the most in Japan, is the character of humbleness and the sense of respect. When a person is talking, even if you don’t agree in the full, you stay quiet and listen carefully – there is always a possibility to learn something new, and the urge to prove that you know everything is just useless!

Respect between colleagues, in the family, towards a guest or a customer, but most of all, respect for Sensei – the Teacher. The literal translation of Sensei is “person born before another”, making absolute sense in this way, to esteem someone who is older than yourself, obviously being more experienced, probably possessing more knowledge and information! How is this so indisputable in Japan and so hard to find in most of Europe in our times? A Professor, a Conductor, a Lecturer or a Soloist is a Sensei and the authority that this person has is simply undeniable.

All of my Japanese experience was for me a Sensei, teaching me new things and reminding me of old important values, for which I am truly grateful!

“EL GRECO” with Orchestra and Chorus

Opera is the perfect unity of all kind of artistic languages. Along with drama theatre we have orchestra music, singers, choir, dancers, light installation, video projection and much more..

Orchestra…

… and all together

Assembling an opera project is quite a process..

The preparation begins with separate teams: Soloists work with the Stage Director, musicians and all singers with the Music Director, dancers with the Choreographer etc..

It is crucial to find a way of good cooperation between us all 🙂 – here George Hatzinasios (composer), Chrisοula Tsimοuri (Choir Director) and me, during Orchestra/Choir rehearsal in ERT (Radio-Television Greece/Athens)

To find the right balance between the Orchestra, Choir and Soloists, we are all working very hard. The title role “El Greco” – Dario Di Vietri is, of course, always involved in the process 🙂

Theofilos Ioannidis, who is performing in “EL GRECO” 3 characters (!!!) – Kalogeros, Paravithinio and III Inquisitor – here during the rehearsal – always concentrated 😉

An excellent Conductor, my friend, maestro Michalis Economou, visited the stage rehearsal. He helped with the preparation of the NTUA Choir. Thank you Michalis, you are always WELCOME!! 🙂

How are you today?

Today I needed some lip balm from the pharmacy.

pharmacy

Right in front of me in the line there was only one lady – standard figure, age +/- 45, 15 – 20 kgs too heavy… 🙂

Being very optimistic, I thought to myself “only one person – it shouldn’t take long“! 🙂

…I was wrong!

It-can-be-a-LONG-wait-at-the-pharmacy-resized-600.jpg

The nice Lady spent an unusual amount of time (and money) for her medicine… It would be common, but she did’t buy anything special – just stuff you (and me) know from publicity on TV… ‚‘Exotic’ products, which would not be prescribed by any doctor…

O.K. – we are leaving in e free Country – EUROPE – everybody can buy everything and spend their money free – but… after all this shopping, right there in the pharmacy, my favourite lady checked her blood pressure… and.. – I was schocked… She had 190 / 128 / 90 !!!!

My dear friends, I’m pretty sure that this lovely (overweight) lady is not going to any sport place, not walking in the fresh air, nor doing any exercise… Instead of all this, she probably

knows by heart every TV advertisement (of pharmaceutical companies) and spends her money for pseudo-medicine, which has no chance for a proper effect whatsoever…

She is a perfect “creation“ of the industry, which needs us depending on them – addicted on medicine, television, credit cards, social media, politics and many others…

hoocked

So, if you were kind enough to have read so far, I would suggest, instead of going that offen to the doctor and spend all your money for medicine, better visit sport places, regularly go out for a walk, do some exercise and outdoors activities.

In other words, your money could be better spent on music concerts, art exhibitions, at the Theatre and of course the Opera…!

So, I hope to see you soon in a concert 🙂

…and perhaps in the forest!…

I had a dream..

dear Friends, all of us, from time to time, have dreams – nothing new..

For sure, You can remember nights and dreams, they where like.. real, colorful…

That real, that after You woke-up, you could see the dream-picture, remember the voices, colors of voices, words, situation, smell, temperature etc..

I just had such dream, a very beautiful one…

Valis_night

I could remember the whole “story” and, what more important, get the meaning of my dream..

Of course, I’ll not tell You whole the story – I have to much respect for You and Your time my Friends..

The most important was the meaning – I know that – it’s coming a wonderful time for the culture !!!

Time, where the “contemporary structure” of the society will no more working.. no more capitalism, no more communism, no more dictatorship etc…

It’s coming the time of the HUMANISM and CULTURE

sen

And for me?

Very clear.. – will find a completely NEW WAY of expression, emotion, friendship and creativity..

NEW partners, friends… maybe also a new Country…?

Valis_slonce

How it will be exactly? – don’t know yet… but – I / we will do a lot of good Music, Opera, Dance, Painting, Sculpting and a we will have lot of FUN !!

Together we will safe the WORLD my Friends!!!

And now… let’s have a Coffee !!

Happy Sunday 🙂

Using the technical possibilities on the right way…

the idea is not new – I saw in a few publications about the possibility to have or get live streaming in internet of concerts, seminars, etc.

Yesterday, during the International Evmelia Classical Music Festival in Valis in Greece (http://www.evmelia-festival.org), the live streaming works during our concert with Chamber-music for Horn, Violin & Piano: Dariusz Mikulski, Horn (Poland) / Horia Vacarescu, Violin (Romania) / Maria Yavroumi, Piano (Greece)

IMG_0474

For a first minute I did’t won’t to believe that’s a good thing.. I was thinking and wired about the quality of the sound and the pictures as well..

After the concert I get so many “likes” via Email and on social networks – I could’t believe..

Some friends wrote:  “…hey Darius, thank You for a wonderful concert and a great performance – I had no idea – it’s possible to get a classical concert in a real time on that way…” – and many like this…

So, even I did’t seen the streaming, after the comments of my Friends I’ll say, they for this case – for making a classical (of course in general not only this one) music for FREE more popular and possible to joy is the TECHNIC used in really a right way!!!

Christmas and Brass

somehow I new it before…, but first now it is for me clear, that Christmas time is marked through wind-instruments-music and most of all through brass…

Christmas

If You see the literature for this spacial time of classical composers like J.S. Bach, J. Haydn, A. Vivaldi ore W.A. Mozart – the Christmas Oratories are all with winds as well…

I understand it historical… – it was much easier to set some simple wind instruments like trumpet, horn, trombone then piano ore strings… From the other side – in the european culture playing brass instruments was (and is) very popular, especially in Germany, Austria ore in the Switzerland – who never heard Trombone-Chorus in south Germany? – the wintertime and Advent-time is a really time for hundreds of concerts in Churches and other public places.

Rathaus_Weihnachten

In the present time it’s a little strange – mostly the temperature is very low and plying brass open-air ore in a could Church is not very comfortable…

But, anyhow – it’s european tradition and I have to say – LOVE this part of the year with proper music, culture and historical tradition.

For a few years, together with our Brass – quintet “Stuttgart-Consort” we manage to persuade very good composer and bassoon – player Libor Sima (SWR Stuttgart) to compose a song for Christmas: “European Christmas Suite”. How it’s sounds like? Gust listen to it there (and then in a new window – down on a screen):

Libor Sima: “European Christmas Suite” for Brass quintet

Happy Advents-time with Stuttgart-Consort Brass Quintet:)
